Longleat House
The impact of Longleat owes as much to its harmonious woodland setting, as it does to the bold, grand exterior conceived by Sir John Thynne. The approach passes through parkland to the crest of a wooded hill, which looks down on the house and the lake beyond. Longleat’s building commenced in l553 and Sir John Thynne never ceased in his attempt to make Longleat into the house of his dreams up until his death in l580. The famous Safari Park was opened some 30 years ago and has been a tremendous success ever since. The present Lord Bath has introduced a number of new attractions to the Estate including the longest maze in the world. A great day out. Plenty for both children and adults to enjoy.
